Hydrological Models
The study area includes the upstream section to the Shanao station, which has a surface area of 8,372 km². Its maximum altitude is 4,000 meters above sea level (masl), and its minimum is 268 masl. The basin has a predominantly warm, rainy climate in the lower and middle reaches, and a predominantly humid rainforest climate in the upper reaches (Alto Mayo Protection Forest – BPAM).
Autoregressive Model
A first-order autoregressive model was developed and applied to the annual (100-year) prediction of Mayo River flows, based on a 31-year historical series. The analysis corresponded to monthly flows measured by SENAMHI at the Shanao station on the Mayo River (1983–2013). The first-order autoregressive (AR1) model, also known as the first-order Markov model, was selected.
